Wonderful view . You actually look down on Sterling, which people often rave about for its view. The wine is amazing too. I don't think Napa gets much better than this.

Andrew Lane Wines was originally founded by David Dickson in 1978 and named after his two sons Andrew and Lane. In 1983, Dickson won "best in show" honors as well as a blue ribbon for his Sauvignon Blanc at the prestigious Napa Town and Country Fair and was featured in the St. Helena Star for being a top underground winery. In 2002, Andrew Dickson helped to drive the release of Andrew Lane's first commercially available wine. Today, Andrew Lane wines are sold in top wine stores around the country and are also available in some of the finest restaurants in the world.

Andrew Murray fell in love with the emerging Rhône varieties, Syrah and Viognier, in the late 1980’s while traveling through France’s Rhône Valley. Leaving his UC Berkeley paleontology studies behind, he pursued his new mistress, Syrah, with an internship in Australia. His three-month tryst evolved into a 15-month romance with the famed Australian Shiraz. Returning to the states, he earned a bachelor’s degree in viticulture and enology from UC Davis’ renowned wine program, then founded his eponymous Santa Ynez winery and vineyard.

The stylistic goal of angelica cellars is to produce outstanding wines with honest varietal characteristics that proudly express their place of origin. Sourcing grapes from the esteemed (and sustainably farmed) White Hawk Vineyard in the Los Alamos Valley in Santa Barbara makes our job easy. The cool climate less than a marathon’s run from the Pacific creates a perfect home for even-ripening grapes with higher natural acidity. The infernally porous sandy soils push the roots of the vineyard to dig down deep for their water and, consequently, pull up incredible minerality and complexity in flavor. Low yields, a minimal cold-soak, and native fermentation encourage the wine to be what it was meant to be with little intervention.

Ankh. The ancient Egyptian symbol representing life was often depicted being handed to the pharaohs by the gods. In wine was produced in Egypt over 5,000 years. Ankh displays rich, powerful black and red fruits from the Napa Valley cabernet sauvignon that dominates this Bordeaux-style blend. The finish is smooth with well integrated tannins.

The vineyards were planted in 1978, replacing an old apple orchard. After farming for several years, Basil Scalabrini began making wine commercially. With no winery, the first wine was made in a redwood grove at the top of the hill, a 1986 Cabernet Sauvignon… It was a good one! The Scalabrini family built the winery in 1987, and began making wine from each vintage thereafter. A family owned and operated, and the family is involved in every phase of the wine growing process. At Annapolis Winery the focus is on quality, not quantity and the winery produce a very small amount of wine, taking personal care at each step of the process. The results are wines that are naturally lush and intense.

I would like to recommend a great boutique winery in St. Helena called Anomaly Vineyards. This is a small family owned winery that does one wine (cabernet) and does it very well. Absolutely amazing small production winery. Call or email in advance for an intimate and relaxed appointment with the passionate and knowledgeable staff, Seth was fantastic. This is a Cab only winery... so make sure you're a fan of the big red. The wines are not inexpensive, but well worth it.
