What a delightful winery. The family is so friendly & informative. The wines are delicious and the tasting pours are generous. The husband and wife run this place are a very nice couple. Barterra is a quaint wine-tasting room along the main street. The staff is friendly and they know their stuff when it comes to wine. The standard wine tasting allows you to sample three wines, but the owner let me try an additional port, and it was really good! Nice Whites, their Ruby Cabernet and their desert wine were good. If you like chocolate, you will really enjoy their desert wine. The art gallery they own is very nice. A great place to have a glass of wine, or get a bottle and enjoy sitting out in the lovely courtyard. It makes for a delightful afternoon.
One of the most difficult aspects of the tasting is to identify how long a wine should be aged. Here, experience and personal liking will determine when to open a bottle. The flavors and texture, or the feel in the mouth persist a couple of minutes after drinking. This is a strong indicator that the wine has a good aging potential.
