A small, family-owned-and-operated vineyard and winery, located at the top of Howell Mountain, producing estate-bottled Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Wines are made in the vineyard, and harvest should take place at the perfect moment – not when dictated by a schedule” is Greg’s approach to his winemaking. In the vineyard, he harvests the grapes at the peak of fruit flavor development. In the winery, he uses boutique winemaking techniques and early bottling to preserve the flavors. His techniques allow him to control the quality, bringing out the grapes’ superior characteristics. The results are excellent Zinfandel, Syrah, Grenache, Cabernet, Viognier, Sauvignon blanc, and Riesling.
With over 25 years of experience as an arborist, Gavin McClain and wife Stacy started Wyatt Oaks Winery in 2009, naming their enterprise after their first son. Since then, both their family and vintages have expanded, so that the wine collection now features both Aubrie's Reserve and Weston's Estate. In addition to growing their own grapes, Gavin's expertise also allows them to purchase the high-quality grapes other local vintners have brought to fruition, producing a greater variety within their collection.
What a nice tasting room! I thought their wines were nice and balanced. The $5 tasting fee was certainly worth it.
I am a big proponent of urban wineries and am thrilled that JC Cellars has set up shop in Oakland.
If you visit in be sure to try Dasche's wines also!
Gershon Bachus Vinters is located on De Portola Dr., across from Cougar Winery. Gershon Bachus is a wine producing estate that's located at the top of a hill, providing gorgeous 360 views of Temecula Valley. You drive up a huge hill and park your car in the gravel driveway.
There isn't a "tasting room" at GVB. It's home to the "seated tasting." You walk in, are warmly greeted by Kenny and/or Christina, have a seat, and enjoy some of the better red wines I've found in Temecula. GBV is more spacious than the typical tasting room experience, so it's great for groups. Tastings are $15 each and the number of wines offered in the tasting is generous.
Alpen Cellars, established on a family ranch in the spring of 1984, is situated in a picturesque mountain valley at the foot of towering craggy peaks in the rugged Trinity Lake region of Trinity County, California. It seems an unlikely location to attempt to grow wine grapes. But the notion, a product of a young enology student's vision, turned out to be notably rewarding.
The 2011 Chiara Bianco is made from an Italian white wine grape, Ribolla Gialla, that hails from the northern region of Alto Adige. Just two acres of this grape is grown in Napa Valley. This is one of the few white wines made like a red, with two weeks of skin contact before fermentation, giving the wine wonderful mouth-feel, mild tannins, and enough acidity and structure to pair with range of richer foods.
