Ceago Vinegarden’s property on Clear Lake has a Tasting Room, a seasonal open-air café, a conference room, and an extra-long Pier where boats & seaplanes can dock.
The volcanic soils in this area are suitable for red varietals, so the choice was made to plant Petite Sirah and Zinfandel. Head-pruned vines yield a hearty grape.
After 10 years of growing and selling grapes from the Knights Valley vineyard to various Napa Valley wineries, the Sniders began looking for new possibilities in Lake County in the area that is now known as the Red Hills Lake County AVA. They saw great potential for growing high premium grapes on a mountain vineyard. They purchased several contiguous parcels of land on a ridge on Mt. Konocti overlooking Clear Lake and in 1998, and using their years of research and experience, began development of the high-altitude mountain vineyard.
Wines are made in the vineyard, and harvest should take place at the perfect moment – not when dictated by a schedule” is Greg’s approach to his winemaking. In the vineyard, he harvests the grapes at the peak of fruit flavor development. In the winery, he uses boutique winemaking techniques and early bottling to preserve the flavors. His techniques allow him to control the quality, bringing out the grapes’ superior characteristics. The results are excellent Zinfandel, Syrah, Grenache, Cabernet, Viognier, Sauvignon blanc, and Riesling.

Shed Horn Cellars is the vision of long-time Lake County resident and award-winning winemaker Michael Wood. For many years Michael produced wines for prestigious Lake County wineries. After years of training, gaining knowledge, and experience, he decided to pursue his own winemaking passion and his vision for Shed Horn became a reality. Being an avid outdoorsman, Michael found a name for his winery easily with the idea of the powerful elk. With his enthusiasm for the business and the assistance of his family, Shed Horn Cellar's started producing wines from the mountainous, wild, volcanic soils of our areas most esteemed high elevation vineyards. Michael is pleased with Shed Horn Cellars history, starting with one 3 barrel lot in 2004, production has grown to more than 2000 cases annual production. Being a small producer, Shed Horn only enter ta few prestigious competitions and they are proud to have consistently won gold medals and shown very well year after year.
