Renards Syrah

Bayard Fox has made his reputation as a true “Rhone Ranger” producing Syrah, Grenache, Viognier, Roussane and Rose from hand selected vineyard locations throughout California.

Elan Vineyards

Patrick and Linda were great hosts and the wine was as good as any we tasted on our trip. The Late Harvest Cab is especially interesting. Beautiful location on Atlas Peak. Great conversation enjoying wonderful wine and a gorgeous view....life doesn't get much better than our visit to Elan.

Bartalotti Wine Company

For Chris and Gino Bartalotti, winemaking at Bartalotti Wine Company is a family tradition that originated centuries ago in Italy and continues today in the Napa Valley. The brothers saw wine on the table each day. Most of the wine was made by family and friends where good food and wine had always been a pleasant part of daily life. In 1994 Chris went to Italy and worked in the family wine business. He studied age-old winemaking techniques. There was even a bit of the unexpected - carrying lugs of grapes on top of a Fiat through narrow hillside trails. Chris came home and, wanting to carry on the tradition, found a willing partner in his brother Gino. ~

Modus Operandi Cellars

Modus Operandi Cellars puts out some truly fantastic wines and Jason is the perfect host for the tasting experience. We found him years ago almost at random, joined the club, and haven't looked back since. Both Jason's whites and reds are something special and still rank among my favorites of all time.

Hullabaloo

Webster's Dictionary (The Voice of Authority) defines Hullabaloo as: To cause an uproar or fuss, and we are certain that this wine is positioned to do just that! Taking advantage of some strong "old timer" grower relations, we have been able to source some wonderful old vine Zinfandel from several Napa Valley vineyards. Please don't ask us from where, as we have been sworn to secrecy; just know the same grapes go into wines that retail for three to four times the price.
The Nine North Wine Company is a unique portfolio of small handcrafted wines from Napa Valley as well as California's North Coast appellation that specialize in offering exceptional quality, worth and value. The portfolio can usually be found in fine wine shops and restaurants around the country. Hallabaloo is one of Nine North Wine Company's labels or brands.

Outpost Wines

Kathy and Rich gave a great tasting and tour. They actually let the wine speak for itself. They were busy telling us about the plots of land and the intricacies of planting grapes in granite, while our small group quietly enjoyed three of their fantastic wines. With wine this good, we didn't need to be told what to look for in the nose, we just enjoyed it. If our glass was empty during the vineyard tour, no problem, Rich kept the bottle in hand and was happy to refill the glass.

Oh yeah, and the view. At 1400 feet, the tasting room and patio have an incredible view of the valley. Take the 2:30 tasting so you can watch the sun start to set.

Our intended 30 minute run in for a taste turned into more than an hour and a half of winery heaven. I wish we could have spent the evening in their tasting room.

Make this appointment first, then plan the rest of your day.

13 Appellations

logo of 13 appellations

13 Appelations - Against this trend of vineyard-designated wines comes THIRTEEN — a wine made not from not just one vineyard, but from a baker’s dozen, each one more esteemed than the next. What distinguishes these vineyards is that they have been chosen as the best representatives of their respective sub-appellations: Howell Mountain, Rutherford, etc. Napa Valley has 13 of these sub-appellations or did when we picked the fruit.

Marston Family Vineyards

The vineyard has an interesting history that includes Clark Gable spending his honeymoon there. The Marston family purchased the vineyard in 1969 and use to sell their grapes to other wineries but began offering their own first commercial release in 1998. But an interesting history, warm hospitality and lovely setting are only part of the attraction. Marston Family Vineyard makes very limited releases of some outstanding, handcrafted wines.

Markham Vineyards

I came here on Sunday at 11am and it was empty! I was so glad we could get personal service. Ryan was friendly and knowledgable. I love the merlot but after the estate tasting, I fell in love with the Altruist as well. As mentioned by others, the exterior of the building is beautiful but the interior looks like a highway rest stop. While sipping our last wine, we were able to browse the gallery containing rock and roll photos which used grace the cover of Rolling Stone.
Like other Napa wineries it can get busy in peak season.
