Bret and Elainea Engelmann started Engelmann Cellars in 2000 in an old raisin shed that his grandfather built on the 200 acre family vineyard back in 1957. Together Bret and Elainea have brought wine prduction up to 3,000 cases with 85 % sold directly to winelovers in the tasting room or online.
The tasting room is very small and not a sit down luxurious place. However, their wines are top notch and the service we had was friendly and helpful. Of course we had an appointment. Even though we were a few minutes late it was no problem. Tasting fee is reasonable $10 or $15 but waived with purchase.
Wines are not expensive and I fell in love with the Block 9 Zin.
Andrew and Laurel Quady left crowded southern California and their jobs in pyrotechnics and merchandising to pursue their dream: a non-urban way of life making wine. Andrew graduated with a Masters in Food Science-Enology from UC Davis and Laurel became a licensed CPA. In 1975, at the urging of friend Darrell Corti, they made their first port from Amador County Zinfandel in Lodi. Today you can experience the passion of this couple that started with their first Amador County Zinfandel Port. Quady Winey is located in the Central Valley of California in Madera along the Madera Wine Trail. Joining the team in 1984 as winemaker Michael Blaylock to manage the growth in the winemaking operations that Essensia Orange Muscat and Elysium Black Muscat Dessert Wines. Now after more than 3 decades later Michael has a lot of award-winning sweet wines to smile about and put a smile on your face as well. Overlooking the beautiful Highland Valley of Ramona there are about 4 acres of grapes that enjoy the breeze, which blows most of the day. In Italy, Aglianico is considered the Barolo of the south. Our Aglianico grapes were first planted in early 2007. Approximately, 2000 vines were planted both on the east and west sides of the vineyard. Followed, was the Nebbiolo, planted only on the east side. In 2008 and 2011 we added the Aleatico grapes. We produce two kinds of wines from this grape: a dry wine and sweet dessert wine, both with incredible aromas.
Legend has it, each year at the beginning of the growing season, a band of coyotes from the nearby foothills, sneak into our vineyards, and for no apparent reason other than treachery, chew on our irrigation lines with wild abandon. Following these scandalous acts, they have been known on occasion to join paws and dance around, howling at the moon in celebration.
In the upper Ojai Valley you will fine Boccali Vineyards & Winery. A family-owned winery that focuses on 100% Estate grown Boccali Vineyard grapes. All Boccali grapes are hand-harvested, produced and bottled at the estate. DeWayne and Joe Boccali are the father and son winemaking team at Boccali Vineyard & Winery. Tastings can enjoyed on Saturdays and Sundays 11:00am to 4:00pm. Wine production is from approx. 70 to 140 cases for each wine. Try the Rustic Blend or the ruby red Cabernet Sauvignon.

Trotter 1/16 Winery has some great wines that are very limited. Meet owner and winemaker Stephanie Trotter Zachari. Stephanie's inagural wine release are something to stand up and take notice of even though they were limited to just 36 rows. Trotter 1/16 Winery just earned Double-Golds and earned some bragging rights for her Flying J's and Oak Canon Caberbet Sauvigons both 2016's. Each of the wines earned (93pts and 98pts) respectively.
