Treasure Island Wines – 2018 – Pine Mountain
Did you know that Sauvignon Blanc is the parent grape that produced Cabernet Sauvignon? It’s true, back in the seventeenth century in southwestern France, an accidental breeding occurred between a red Cabernet Franc grape vine and a white Sauvignon Blanc grape vine. The results are what we know today as one the most popular grapes among American wine drinkers, Cabernet Sauvignon.
Treasure Island Wines 2018 Pine Mountain Sauvignon Blanc is produced by using some of California’s exceptional wine grapes. Vineyards where the fruit comes from vineyards that stand at an elevation of 2,200 to 2,800 feet in elevation just northeast of Cloverdale, CA. The Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon fruit grown in this region deliver intense color and flavors. Rightly so for Jim Mirowski, winemaker and owner produces excellent wines at his winery located on Treasure Island below the Bay Bridge and in view of the city’s skyline of San Francisco.
To those that have not tasted Sauvignon Blanc, it is a white wine that owes much of its popularity to winemakers in the Loire Valley in France. As a white wine Sauvignon Blanc tastes much different than wines such as a Chardonnay in that it exhibits more green herbaceous flavors. While not every Sauvignon Blanc will display the exact same bouquet or flavors look for lime, green apple, passion fruit and stone fruit. Depending on just how ripe the fruit is when harvested and crushed the resulting wine flavors will range from zesty line to a flowery peach. You may even detect bell pepper, jalapeño, gooseberry, and a grassiness. These flavors come from aromatic compounds called pyrazines and are the secret to Sauvignon Blanc’s taste. Most Sauvignon Blanc wines are made completely dry, though some winemakers in California have been know to leave a gram or two of residual sugar to add a richer texture.
Treasure Island Wines 2018 Pine Mountain Sauvignon Blanc is fermented in stainless steel and sparkles with acidity and results in a wine that exhibits citrus and tropical fruit flavors with a floral nose.
