Cobblestone Vineyards

Named after the round stones found in its first vineyard, Cobblestone utilizes the most advanced wine-making technology, using grape varietals best suited for the wine produced.

Cobblestone Vineyards began the growing of wine grapes and wine making in 1971.  Cobblestone is a small family-owned enterprise motivated by a passion-driven philosophy to make the most outstanding wines possible at affordable prices.

Named after the round stones found in its first vineyard, Cobblestone utilizes the most advanced wine-making technology, using grape varietals best suited for the wine produced. There are three vineyards dedicated to the world's most exciting grape varieties, coupled with appropriate French Oak for aging.

The original vineyard of 50 acres in the cool Central Coast of California from the Arroyo Seco appellation produces a dry, vibrant Chardonnay with just a hint of French Oak.

In 1997, a second 25 acre vineyard was added in the appellation called Atlas Peak, located on a mountain range at about 1,500 feet above sea level on the East side of Napa Valley. The volcanic soil, elevation, and climate conditions produce a world class Cabernet Sauvignon and a small allotment of Petit Verdot.

Tradition and Innovation

Antinori Napa Valley stands as a landmark achievement for the Antinori Family, whose winemaking legacy spans over six centuries. By applying their Old-World heritage and knowledge, the family has unlocked the highest potential of this mountain estate, creating New-World wines marked by finesse and refinement.

The estate was born from Marchese Piero Antinori's dream of producing a sublime expression of Napa Valley mountain winemaking, inspired by his first visit to the region in the 1960s. Over the years, this vision materialized with the acquisition of a 1,200-acre property featuring rugged, high-elevation terrain in a remote part of the Vaca Mountain range, which Piero transformed into immaculate vineyards.

“Wine and vintners must respect the rhythm of nature. You plant a vineyard today and the first results that are really positive will come after six, seven, ten years, you never know. These are things that happen slowly over time and centuries but that show that we too feel it in our DNA. Passion, patience, persistency.” — Marchese Piero Antinori

Free wine tastings, perfect scenery, a great little picnic area, and did I mention free tastings? There's also a great book of menus/letters from the White House where their wines had been used. They go back to the Clintons - kind of cool! Hours: Thursday - Monday 11:00 to 4:00, Tuesday and Wednesday by appointment only.

Villa Toscano

Beautiful grounds, it does seem like what an American would envision Italy to be like garden speakers playing American-Italian music abound, fountains, and lots of terra cotta planters. This winery was lovely! They have a great patio filled with flowers and a fountain. They also served lunch. The grilled chicken breast sandwich was really tasty, the same with their pizzas. It's definitely a winery to check out if you are in the area.

Barterra Wines

glass of wine

We found the Barterra winery, located in Half Moon Bay, to be a delightful place. A husband and wife team run this winery. The staff is friendly and they know their stuff when it comes to wine.

Barterra offers premium wines from the finest vineyards in Napa Valley, Sonoma, Carneros, Lodi, Amador, Alexander Valley, Mendocino, Lodi, Paso Robles, Russian River Valley and Madera.  All of Barterra Wines is sold directly to the public.

Their quaint tasting room is located on the main street and the pours are generous.  Their standard wine tasting allows you to sample three wines, but the owner let me try an additional port (and it was excellent!).  We enjoyed tasty white wines and their Ruby Cabernet and chocolatey dessert wine were very good. ~

Romeo Vineyard and Cellars

In downtown Calistoga this tasting room was very charming and inviting. The manager and tasting guide, Brandon, were very helpful and welcoming, we really felt at home. Great ambiance, exquisite Sempre Vive wines, cheese and charcuterie. Romeo Vineyards produces elegant awines from vines forty-two years old which reside south of a nine acre reservoir in Calistoga, California. The vineyard lies sandwiched between two forested knolls, leading to the geographical conditions that create hot days and cool nights and an extremely long hang time in our Calistoga vineyard. This allows their grapes to develop full flavors, deep color and intense complexity.

Love private tours? Perfect for both families and friends. It comes with both a walk tour and a formal sit-down tasting paired with complementary cheese and chocolates. Can a girl ask for more? I'm in particular a fan of their Cabernet Sauvignon - very bold without being overtly tannin-ridden and their Violetta dessert wine - seriously off the charts!
