Bonaccorsi Wine Company

The Bonaccorsi Wine Company, founded in 1999, emerged from the vision of Master Sommelier Michael Bonaccorsi, who aimed to craft exceptional Burgundian and Rhône-style wines in California’s Central Coast. Recognized as one of the top Master Sommeliers in the world, Mike was a perfectionist and a collaborative force within the local winemaking community. His first vintages garnered acclaim, with some of the highest-rated Pinot Noir and Syrah wines that even graced the tables of the White House and some of the finest restaurants across the United States.

Despite his success and accolades, Mike remained humble, known for his keen sense of humor and generosity. Tragically, he passed away suddenly in January 2004 at the age of 43, leaving behind a loving family, including his wife, Jenne Lee Bonaccorsi, his parents, and 11 siblings, among them Rich and Joe.

From 2004 to 2018, Jenne took the reins of Bonaccorsi Wine Company, continuing the legacy by producing some of the most highly acclaimed wines in the Central Coast. Rich and Joe supported Jenne throughout these years, participating in harvests, pouring wines at tastings, and championing the Michael Bonaccorsi Memorial Scholarship at Allan Hancock College, along with the endowment at the University of California, Davis, aimed at nurturing the next generation of winemakers.

Rich and Joe have always believed in their brother Mike's vision. From the company’s inception, they served as financial partners, wine pourers, informal salespeople, and, most importantly, proud brothers. Now, alongside their wives, Desiree and Mary Clare, they continue to carry forward the Bonaccorsi Wine Company with love, humility, and immense joy, inviting wine enthusiasts to experience the passion and spirit that define their family’s wines.

What a delightful hidden gem worth the short jaunt off the main road. The jovial Scott gave us an extended pour of some wonderful if overpriced wines. but the out door tasting was a treat and the much lower traffic spend some real personal attention.

Maréchal Vineyards

glass of Maréchal Vineyards wine

Maréchal Vineyards is a family-owned and operated winery located a few minutes north of Sanger in Fresno County. Conveniently located on the way to Kings Canyon National Park. Maréchal Vineyards makes wines from both their estate vineyards as well as from partner growers in Fresno, Madera and Paso Robles. Maréchal was good enough to let us drop in and do some video for a video project we were working on You can watch that video HERE While the winemaker Josh Marshall was busy in the vineyard that day his wife Jenifer Marshall took the time to show us around and even poured a few of their wines on a day they were normally closed. Be sure to stop in for a visit. Haley Washburn is the Winery's Manager and in charge of the tasting room and she always greets with a smile. If you time it right Josh and Jenifer just might be doing the pouring that day. There is a nice variety of wines to enjoy but a hint, be sure to try the Primitivo and the Petite Sirah if it is offered.*

Bargetto Winery

Glass of wine

Soquel Bargetto has the prettiest tasting room and patio overlooking a creek and wilderness. Getting to the wines, the Sauv Blanc and Pinot Grigio are pretty good and well balanced, the Chard not my preference. The reserve reds are quite delicious and the sweet wines are good if you are into the sweeter wines.

The winemaking heritage of Bargetto began with brothers Phillip and John Bargetto, who emigrated from Castelnuovo Don Bosco, a small town in the Piedmont region of northern Italy. Bringing with them years of winegrowing experience, they established BARGETTO WINERY on the banks of Soquel Creek in California.

Some History

Phillip was the first to leave Italy in 1891 at the age of seventeen. In 1909, John joined his brother in San Francisco.

The original Bargetto family winery was located in San Francisco from 1910 to 1917, operating under the name South Montebello Vineyard and Wine Company. With Prohibition on the horizon, the winery was closed, and the brothers relocated to Soquel in 1917.

In 1918, Phillip and John purchased the current site of BARGETTO WINERY and began producing wine in an old barn on the property. During Prohibition (1919-1933), the brothers continued to make wine for family and friends while selling produce to local customers and growing apples at their family ranch in Soquel. When Prohibition ended in 1933, they devoted more time to the wine business, expanding into a wholesale operation while maintaining their produce sales.

Phillip Bargetto passed away in 1936, leaving John as the sole owner of the business during the 1940s and 1950s. John continued to produce and sell wine both wholesale and retail, with the support of his sons Ralph and Lawrence during these years.

Canyon Road Winery

Canyon Road Winery owns 140 acres of vineyards. The majority of the grapes for its wines are sourced from coastal appellations and selected Northern California vineyards. The California appellation is part of the key to the brand's success, since it allows winemakers to roam prime California sources for just the juice they want.
