From the lofty heights of Montebello Mountain the grapes make the journey down to the historic ranch where they are examined, pressed and crushed in the shadow of the original Picchetti homestead house. Under the gaze of the ever watchful and vigilant peacocks, sweet juice is magically turned to wine.
They say, “Variety is the spice of life”, well we needed more spice! We are now growing and harvesting Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Petite Sirah, Gewurztraminer, Petit Verdot and Malbec. Some of these grapes will be put back into the wines for blending to add some complexity to our wines. Other grapes, like our Petite Sirah are going to be used exclusively on our award winning Select Harvest, that recently won a Double Gold, in the 2009 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Contest.
The 2011 Chiara Bianco is made from an Italian white wine grape, Ribolla Gialla, that hails from the northern region of Alto Adige. Just two acres of this grape is grown in Napa Valley. This is one of the few white wines made like a red, with two weeks of skin contact before fermentation, giving the wine wonderful mouth-feel, mild tannins, and enough acidity and structure to pair with range of richer foods.
Hidden from view off a narrow two-lane road in the heart of Fair Play, this winery takes advantage of the rocky outcroppings and protected valleys indigenous to the area. Toogood Estate Winery is unique in the Sierra Foothills because it has wine caves. There were many wines to choose from and the staff made the visit fun. They mixed in educating us about the wines and their process with jokes and kept things fun.
The Chiarito Vineyard winery came about as an extension of what John was already doing; farming, gardening, and making prosciutto, bread and wine. It was nurtured and helped along by his family and other influential figures he met along the way, including Larry Pacini, Irece Anzilotti and his dad, Americo.
The creation of this winery has given John a great connection to the land and an older way of life. It is a tribute to his parents, grandparents, and all of the friends who have taught and helped him.
Woof ’n Rose Winery, owned by Stephen and Marilyn Kahle, is a small family operated Boutique winery on a north-facing hillside overlooking the beautiful Ramona Valley. We make only red wines made exclusively from Ramona Valley grapes, mostly using our eight estate grown varietals – Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot, Grenache Noir, Montepulciano, and Alicante Bouschet (a very unique varietal). Relax on our outdoor dog and rose themed tasting veranda, view the vineyards and surrounding mountains and valley, and chat with the owners and operators; all while enjoying our current releases, many of which have been medalists at international wine competitions. For the enjoyment of the white wine only aficionado we normally offer a by the glass option from other sources.
Pavi Wines - you can drink (not visit) - have some wonderful Italian varieties...almost the only people in Napa who do.
You'll find their wines on a lot of restaurant lists...it's great quality at good prices.
I especially love the Pinot Grigio ... way better than the average "nothing there" pinot grigio, very refreshing on a hot afternoon. They sell it by the glass at Calistoga Inn - I'd say it's best on the deck there!
You can also find it in St. Helena at Tra Vigne, Farmstead; in Calistoga at Brannan's; and in Rutherford at Rutherford Grill.
You can also enjoy a glass at: Napa Wine Company Tasting Room

Scott Harvey Wines has tasting room in Sutter Creek and would love to welcome you to experience their wonderful wines. Scott Harvey and his wife have three tasting rooms for your pleasure and at each one "you will discover Old World winemaking meets New World Style". Scott and Jana Harvey are serious about his winemaking yet they have never lost their focus that you are a visitor and they are quick to make you feel warm and cozy in their tasting room in Sutter Creek. Scott Harvey Wines also has tasting rooms n the Shenandoah Valley and in Clarksburg and are located in The Old Sugar Mill so don't miss them when you visit there. While all of Scott's wines are wonderful, don't miss out on a chance to get a bottle of Scott's "Vineyard 1869". This Zinfandel comes from a vineyard that dates back to 1869 and is a wonderful expression of "Old Vine Zin". CaCorks Members welcome! ~

Had a great time! Russel was a lot of fun and gave us some great info and was really accommodating. Really enjoyed our time.
The wine itself was great as well, for $5 (which can go toward purchasing wine if you choose) there were about 6-7 wines. A good variety as well. We even stayed after the tasting to enjoy a bottle of wine from Arroyo Robles right away.
They are also open later than some of the other tasting rooms, which is a plus! Russell also gave us some great advice on where to go next.
