Almaden Vineyards

Almaden Vineyards logo

Almaden's rich history spans nearly 16 decades. In 1852, founder Etienne Theé planted California's first vineyards with vines from his home in France, naming it Almaden Vineyards after a local mine in the Los Gatos area. We are proud to say that California's winemaking began here, and since then, we've become one of the leading winemakers in the country.

Alpen Cellars

Alpen Cellars, established on a family ranch in the spring of 1984, is situated in a picturesque mountain valley at the foot of towering craggy peaks in the rugged Trinity Lake region of Trinity County, California. It seems an unlikely location to attempt to grow wine grapes. But the notion, a product of a young enology student's vision, turned out to be notably rewarding.

The service was outstanding! Our host Ashley was so friendly and made our wine tasting experience a great one! The tasting room is beautiful and the grounds are gorgeous. We went on a chilly day, so we didn't get to sit in the beautiful outdoor area.

Alta Colina Vineyards & Winery

In 2003, after 35 years as an engineer by day, and a home winemaker by night, Bob Tillman found the 130-acre parcel in Paso Robles' Adelaida District that would become Alta Colina Vineyard. The 31 planted acres and 8 Rhone varieties that make up Alta Colina Vineyard hit the dirt in 2005 and his daughter, Maggie Tillman, came on in 2008 to help in the efforts. With a complete focus on estate-grown Rhones, Bob crafts about 2,000 cases a year and continues to sell the remainder of the fruit to other great Rhone winemakers throughout the Central Coast. Quality, legacy, and love of the land are Bob's signature.

Frank Altamura’s passion for detail is clearly defined by his richly textured, highly collectable wine. Founded in 1985 by Napa Valley natives Frank and Karen Altamura, Altamura Vineyards and Winery is located on a sprawling natural ranch on Wooden Valley Road in Napa Valley where estate grown Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese are meticulously produced. Gorgeous drive up to Wooden Valley but it's really not that far from Napa...10 minutes? Soooo worth it!

Larry Long, Founder and General Manager
Though winemaking was not his first passion, Larry Long eventually found his calling in the craft, a decision that transformed the course of his life. After earning a bachelor's degree in biological science with a minor in chemistry from UC Davis, he pursued two master's degrees—one in biochemistry from Ohio State University and another in healthcare administration from George Washington University. Larry spent 20 years as a hospital administrator, including 13 years as CEO of Tahoe Forest Hospital in Truckee, California. After settling in Truckee with his wife, Linda, Larry discovered the joy of home winemaking. “I loved the idea of taking grapes and making wine, then enjoying the fruits of our labor. It was a great adventure for the whole family.” His enthusiasm for the hobby led him to take viticulture and winemaking classes through the UC Davis Extension, ultimately inspiring him to retire early from healthcare to pursue his passion.

Linda Long, Co-founder
Linda Long met her future husband, Larry, while attending UC Davis. She raised their three children in Truckee while running her private clinical social practice. For nearly a decade, Linda balanced her work in Truckee with the establishment of the winery, finally retiring in 2012. At Amador Cellars, she plays a vital role in various aspects of the business, managing the tasting room, organizing club events, and coordinating private gatherings in the newly established barn.

Michael Long, Head Winemaker & Viticulturist
Michael Long, the son of Larry and Linda, discovered his passion for grape growing and winemaking while working alongside his father. After gaining hands-on experience, he attended Fresno State University, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Enology. Michael values every stage of the grape growing and winemaking process, dedicating his efforts to ensuring that the vineyards and fruit meet the highest standards. He prides himself on being a minimalist winemaker, intervening only when necessary to enhance the intrinsic qualities of the grapes, resulting in sensual, charismatic wines. Michael currently resides in Cameron Park, California, with his wife and college sweetheart, Michelle, their son James, and Oscar, the winery dog.

Amador Cellars offers a welcoming environment for wine lovers seeking quality and a personal touch, reflecting the Long Family's dedication to their craft and the land.

Amapola Creek Vinyards & Winery

The Amapola Creek story began in 2001 when Richard and Alis Arrowood discovered a very special place on the western slope of the Mayacamas Mountains—those magnificent mountains that rise between and separate the Sonoma and Napa valleys. From the first moment we set foot on the 100-acre ranch that the Arrowoods now call home. It was almost as if we had known and loved the place in anoter lifetime. There is, in fact, a deep connection to the past here. The red-brown volcanic soils reveal the mountain’s fiery history, and traces remain of the old stagecoach road that once ran through the property. Stone walls still stand where Chinese immigrants built them more than a century ago.

Ambyth Estate

Painting of person enjoying a glass of wine

AmByth is the Welsh word meaning 'forever'. We view it as our legacy: to live and farm to our heart's content in Templeton for the remainder of our lives...but also to farm with the future in mind, and the healthy condition of our land being left behind. AmByth Estate is Paso Robles' first and only winery to produce Demeter-certified Biodynamic wines. We utilize the Biodynamic method of farming to enhance our observations of nature, and use these intimate insights as tools that allow our 20 acres of vineyards to express their true character through the grapes it produces. We want our grapes to be as unique to AmByth Estate as your thumbprint is to you.
