Red Table Wines

McGrail Vineyards

A nice find as we were wine tasting in Livermore last weekend. As you drive into the parking lot, you immediately forget about everything since the grounds are so gorgeous. There's even an outside patio where you can enjoy your wine and a packed lunch you may have brought with you. The tasting room is HUGE!

The staff was super friendly and helpful, especially since we'd never been to McGrail before. Enjoyed the '08 Picazo Merlot and the '08 Picazo Proprietary Red.

Armida Winery

Armida Winery main location is located up in Healdsburg (Russian River wine yay!), and they carry a few of the labels in the Capitola tasting room, although Poizon is the ones that will catch your eye. Small, intimate tasting room. Friendly staff, I was grilling them on all my unanswered questions from my last Sonoma trip and they didn't mind at all, were friendly and personable and answered all my questions as far as their expertise would allow them to. They were quite knowledgeable, there was even a young girl in there who was so informed.

F. Teldeschi Winery

*Tiny* building with beautiful scenery, Teldeschi let us venture into the back room to see all the Oak barrels with the sweet alcoholic juices we were imbibing. There's something to be said about a winery just being a place for wine.

Tablas Creek

Tablas Creek bottles are widely distributed and easy to find in wine stores, I don't always visit their tasting room. Not only can I often find better deals at wine shops, but I have a fairly good idea what wines of theirs I prefer so a tasting isn't extremely helpful. But, I can't resist and it helps that they increased the size of the tasting menu. It also helps that they will pour and sell wines not on the typical tasting run-down and not typically found in stores.

Domaine De La Terra Rouge

TERRE ROUGE means "Red Earth". This vermillion-colored soil is one of the hallmarks of our region. Our vineyards are in soils that are largely granite and volcanic-based. The TERRE ROUGE portfolio is composed of wines made from Rhône varietals grown in the rugged and varying terroirs of this region: Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Viognier, Roussanne, Marsanne. High elevation sites up to 3200’ contribute to the complexity of the wines. The TERRE ROUGE portfolio is composed of wines made from Rhône varietals. The winery's winemaker, Bill Easton puts his family name, EASTON, on our non-Rhône varietals wines.

Philip Togni Vineyards

Most of the 2000 case annual production is sold to a mailing list on a first-come basis. Part of each offering is a very limited amount of the Cabernet made ten years earlier, as an illustration of the ageworthiness of our wine. The balance is split between a broad but thin presence in many of the well known wine stores in the U.S., and a definite presence in almost all European countries together with the principle Asian markets.

CK Mondavi Vineyards

Cesare and Rosa Mondavi moved to the Napa Valley and purchased the Charles Krug Winery in 1943. Winemaking was an important part of their Italian heritage and together with their sons Robert and Peter, they created CK Mondavi – a line of wines offering both tremendous quality and value. CK Mondavi began with a vision and commitment to produce high quality wines worthy of gracing the tables of families across America. Seventy years later, this vision continues.

Adastra Wines

Painting, women enjoying wine

Adastra Winery is organic with a great history, and Chris is happy to walk you through it. He'll introduce you to the property -- which he and his wife live off of -- and the business as well. The property is wonderful, and you can tell a lot of love has built the place up. He'll share with you the old barn and his herb garden. You'll become familiar with the origins of the name and finally, with the wines themselves while sitting around his dining room table. The reds are excellent, absolutely top-notch. On our trip, my wife and I only joined two wine clubs, and Adastra Winery is one of them. The tasting and tour can be expensive, $25 per person but that fee is waived if you join the wine club. Honestly, even if you don't join the club, it's worth the fee for the experience.~ Artwork by Wine Artist Agata Zaborowski – Agata Art Gallery
