Crawford Family Wines

Mark and Wendy Horvath, long-time figures in the Santa Barbara County wine industry, have embarked on a journey to establish a small, family-run winery that highlights the finest fruit the region has to offer. Their venture, Crawford Family Wines, showcases grapes from esteemed local vineyards such as Babcock, Bentrock, Radian, Rita’s Crown, and Zotovich. Embracing the "garagiste" style of winemaking, they produce tiny lots of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that capture the essence of the unique Sta. Rita Hills vineyards.

Committed to authenticity in varietal character and a sense of place, the Horvaths employ a minimalist approach, allowing the fruit to express itself fully. With a small Rhône program underway sourced from the Ballard Canyon appellation, the winery is evolving into a true showcase of meticulously farmed vineyards.

Mark Crawford Horvath began his winemaking career as a moonlighter alongside his good friend, Master Sommelier Emmanuel Kimiji. This invaluable experience, tasting and learning about wines from around the world with one of the country’s most celebrated sommeliers, helped Mark develop a well-rounded palate. Once captivated by the world of wine, he became determined to create it himself.

Together with Wendy, Mark left their previous jobs and moved to Sonoma to immerse themselves in the wine business. Mark took a position at Carmenet Winery, located high atop Moon Mountain in Sonoma Valley. Starting as a cellar worker, he quickly advanced to the lab, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the winemaking process.

While at Carmenet, Mark pursued various courses offered by UC Davis’ extension program. During a four-day Viticulture course, he met a group of passionate young winemakers from Santa Barbara County. Their enthusiasm for this emerging wine region was contagious, prompting Mark and Wendy to visit the Santa Ynez Valley multiple times over the following year. When Bryan Babcock advertised for an assistant winemaker, Mark seized the opportunity.

At that time, Santa Barbara County had yet to garner significant national attention, and the Sta. Rita Hills had not yet been established as an official appellation. The Horvaths quickly became part of this burgeoning winegrowing region. Mark spent five years at Babcock, the last two as Associate Winemaker, where he oversaw all winemaking responsibilities.

During his tenure at Babcock, Mark launched a side project with his close friend and colleague, Kenneth Gummere. They started with a single barrel of Pinot Noir from the 2000 vintage and, after producing one delicious wine, formed Kenneth-Crawford Wines. Over the next decade, they crafted some of the region’s finest and most sought-after Pinot Noir, Syrah, and Grenache.

Crazy Woman Cellars

Painting by Agata Zaborowski

The inspiration for the name comes from the winemaker's former mother-in-law, who raised four daughters as a single woman on a homestead in Mendocino County during the 1970s. They lived in a sheep barn without plumbing, windows, or doors, surrounded by pot growers who frequently encroached on their property. Defending her family with a six-shooter, she soon became known as "The Crazy Woman" and was widely respected in the community for her fearlessness. The winery aims to honor the countless women who have changed history while facing the label of being called crazy.

The winery is excited to host tastings in the barrel room, located in the Tin City Annex, where the wine is produced. This immersive experience will include tastings of wines in bottle alongside barrel tastings, allowing guests to see how the wines are made and enjoy an individual tasting experience.

If you are going to the grocery store wineries--then this isn't a place for you. Please only go here if you love the complex nature of what wine has to offer. This is a haven for people who really enjoy, appreciate, and want to learn more about what wine has to offer. This isn't a taste and dash. This is savor and reflection. Not only is the wine great, but so was the tour given by Mark. I was really impressed with this winery and the friendliness of the staff. I would definitely come here again.

Croze Wines

Croze Wines is operated by Gary Wooten, a long time resident in the Napa Valley. He has worked as winemaker with several smaller area wineries during their formative stages and helped them become established. He currently runs two labels; Croze wines which includes a Cabernet Sauvignon and a Sauvignon Blanc and the second label, Smith Wooten featuring a 100% Cabernet Franc (he originally made a barrel of Cabernet Franc to use for blending purposes but after tasting, found this wine to be excellent as a stand along varietal and ended up bottling it) and a Syrah. Croze ages their wines longer than many area wineries and as a result the current vintages are typically several years older than what you usually find on the market. The barrel aging program usually runs up to 40+ months and all the wines are tasted during this time and are removed from barrel when they are ready, in other words the barrel aging program is not locked into a certain amount of time like you may find with some of the larger wineries.

CRUSH Vineyard

After 30 years in the Fashion industry in New York City, Denise and Scott Schramm followed their hearts and daughters to California.  Denise and Scott are longtime wine enthusiasts and have always dreamed of owning a vineyard.  Traveling to Napa Valley since the early 90’s indulging their thirst for Cabernet Sauvignon this couple fell in love with California wines and the beauty of wine country. The Schramm's are also fortunate to have traveled to Europe and developed a fondness for the Italian Super Tuscans, Spanish Riojas, and France’s wines from the Bordeaux and Rhone regions. Nothing made them happier than gathering with friends and family sharing stories, good food, and great wine.

The dream became reality when this couple purchased an established vineyard on the West Side of Paso Robles in the Adelaida District. The vineyard was known for growing award-winning Tannat and Tempranillo, two varietals that follow their “Road Less Traveled” philosophy in winemaking. At CRUSH Vineyard, the focus is on small-batch, hand-crafted red wines which are Estate grown on our family vineyard. Always sustainably farmed and handpicked.

The very first bottling, to commemorate the wedding of our oldest daughter Phoebe was a special blend of Tannat and GSM. This blend was named INCEPTION to mark the start of the new couple's life together, and the beginning of Denise and Scott's winemaking adventure.

Crystal Basin Cellars

Like a good number of California wineries Crystal Basin Cellars has its roots in amateur cooperative winemaking. Beginning under the house in 1981, Cyrstal Basin Cellars created a long string of vintages that captured fun times with friends. Steadily growing from 3 barrels to 25, Cyrstal Basin Cellars outgrew its space and was formed as a commercial winemaking operation in 2000. Since then, Crystal Basin Cellars has produced more than 10,000 cases of wine that have been eagerly devoured by their fans and the winemakers. Each vintage has won at least one Gold Medal in major competitions. with that being said may we suggest that you be sure to try the El Dorado Barbera and Cabernet Franc if you are serious about your Reds.
