Deerfield is a winery where you're encouraged to sit and enjoy your wine. You're not crowded around a tasting bar, fighting for space and attention in order to sip your wine. Instead, the tasting takes place in a cave, with tables and chairs everywhere - encouraging everyone to have a seat, enjoy their wine and the sommeliers will be around to pour the wine.
Castelli Family Vineyards is a familiar story for many of California's wineries. What began as a hobby turned into something much more. The adventure began when Mike's daughter, Cassie, decided to get married at Cordiano Winery in 2008. Its Italian owner convinced Mike to plant some vines. A few vines turned into 3,000 vines. Mike soon realized his hobby vineyard had grown into a business of caring for his young vines. Mike he recruited his son-in-law Nelson to join him. For three years, they spent most days caring meticulously for each vine. It was not long before Mike built a 1,600 sq. ft. cellar to store the wine he anticipated. Early on Mike and Nelson soon realized that their endeavor needed advice on every aspect of growing, harvesting, and fermenting their grapes. They sought the counsel of neighbors with established vineyards, among them, Cactus Star Vineyard, Highland Hills Winery and Kohill Winery. The results? Passion, sharing knowledge of caring for the vineyard and expanded knowledge of Castelli Family Vineyards wine making empowering Mike & Nelson to take their hobby into turning their labors and grapes into some delightful award-winning wines. Today Mike and Nelson both have taken their passion for wines and the cooperative spirit of fellow winemakers to produce some delightful wines. Castelli Family Vineyards is a wonderful winery to visit for all you Red wine-lovers.
Longtime Placer County residents, the Mendez Family, broke ground on their Auburn vineyard in 1999, with no illusions of simplicity. When Viña Castellano was started the family knew it was going to be a labor of love, with a strong emphasis on “labor”. Teena Wilkins, who co-owns and manages the vineyard and winery, is the youngest of Gabe and Carolyn Mendez’s four children. She and her father, along with her husband Craig and their vineyard & winery foreman, Victor Brambila, oversee the weekly work at the winery, but the entire family contribute to the winery in some form or fashion.
Their wines were good, and actually moderately priced. The one that really stood out was their Gemini a Zinfandel-Syrah blend? They were offering a significant discount if we bought a bottle of the 05 and the 06, and that was too good to pass up. We also picked up a bottle of their Full Moon a Zinfandel, Syrah and Cab Franc blend.

LaRocca Vineyards was born in 1984 when Philip and Judy began farming 110 acres of unkept Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot wine grapes, on Doe Mill Ridge in Forest Ranch, California. Philip and Judy transformed the vineyard to a thriving, successful certified organic operation. LaRocca Vineyards is located at 2600 feet elevation on the lower southern slopes of Mount Lassen.

Roundpond has everything required for a memorable and wonderful experience. Their long driveway lined with tall palm trees overlooking old vines invites you in to the winery. The beautiful scenery of the second level terrace allows you to see both mountain ranges and the wine is to die for. Their approach to wine tasting is a one-on-one experience at a private table, inside of outside. Their cab sav, sauv blanc, and syrah are favorites. The friendly and very knowledgeable staff will guide you through a food & wine tasting provided by their talented chef.
Romel Rivera is an awesome winemaker. Besides making his own wine, he is the assistant winemaker at Pride Mountain Vineyard under the tutelage of renown winemaker king Bob Foley.
Romel's wines are big, luscious, fruit forward, long lingering finishes, complex. The taste goes on and on. Powerful muscular wines. Best are his cabernet sauvignon, petite syrah, and merlots.
