Sojourn Cellars

lots of wine glasses, a wine tasting

They express their gratitude for the loyal support of Sojourn Cellars. This year, Sojourn Cellars is celebrating the 20th vintage of their wines. As they reach this milestone, they are introducing a fresh new look and elevating their wine labels. They invite followers to join them on their journey, offering an insider’s perspective on the new Sojourn look and feel.

What remains unchanged is the quality of the wine in the bottle. The winemaking team continues to be the same, as does their commitment to crafting memorable wines from exceptional vineyards in Sonoma and Napa Valley.

Hendry Winery

Reservations are a must! Call a couple of weeks ahead of time, so you get the day and time slot you want. They only have two time slots, either 10am or 2pm. The wine tour and tasting runs about three hours (half tour, half tasting), but it's totally worth it! The winery grounds are gorgeous. Great scenic views. The tour and tasting combo is $40, but it's waived if you buy an equivalent amount of wine. Sweet! Their bottles range from about $25 to $50 depending on what you get.

Marston Family Vineyards

The vineyard has an interesting history that includes Clark Gable spending his honeymoon there. The Marston family purchased the vineyard in 1969 and use to sell their grapes to other wineries but began offering their own first commercial release in 1998. But an interesting history, warm hospitality and lovely setting are only part of the attraction. Marston Family Vineyard makes very limited releases of some outstanding, handcrafted wines.

Ponte Winery

The winery: Service was great. Wine tasting was nice, definitely do that. Lots to choose from and the chips are really good. The wines were nice as well. We took the tour which was pretty cool. The tour guide was very nice and knowledgeable. He took us on a tour of the winery, told us a little about the surrounding area and the process how the wine is made.

Meyer Family Cellars

pouring wine

Matt Meyer From an early age, Matt's goal was to be a winegrower like his father. As he grew up, he spent much of his time in the vineyard and cellar at Silver Oak. The passion he developed for wine led him to the University of California, Davis, where he was awarded a Masters in Viticulture in 2002. Karen Meyer Karen was born and raised in Perth, Western Australia. After a harvest in Margaret River, she was hooked on wine. She completed a degree in enology at Charles Stuart University, then spent the next few years working harvests around the world. In 1999 Matt and Karen met in Oregon while working the crush at Argyle Winery in the Willamette Valley. The wines produced at Meyer Family Cellars are as diverse as the vineyards in which they are grown.

Hope & Grace Wines

We popped into this beautiful tasting room. The lady behind the counter was very informative and sweet, and understood that we were in a bit of a time crunch so she poured our wines quickly while still giving us explanations of the grapes that were used to produce each wine. I thought the wines here were very different because they were blends of grapes grown in different regions. We had the general tasting ($15/person) and particularly enjoyed the pinot noir and the syrah. Art work from wine artist Agata Zaborowski - Agata Art Gallery

Smith & Hook

Today Smith & Hook continues to produce its signature varietal-Cabernet Sauvignon. The bottle, with its ‘ranch brand’ emblazoned directly onto the bottles, reflects the heritage of Smith & Hook wines and the Hahn winery. Hand-crafted by winemaker Paul Clifton, the wine echoes the pioneering spirit of the Hahn Family and their commitment to Monterey winegrowing.

Shale Canyon Wines

glasses of wine and grapes

Shale Canyon Wines is a new producer vinting small lots of hand crafted varietals of Chardonnay, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petite Sirah and Zinfandel. 2008 and 2009 production will be about 850 cases per year. Long term production goals are between 2,500 to 4,000 cases per year. Production will be focused on six to eight varietals, including our own estate wines from recently planted Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Zinfandel, Tempranillo and Mourvedre. Trry the Blair Pinot Noir, the Shale Canyon Merlot and Shale Cab Franc. Very good wines for a great price.

Ridge Vineyards Winery - Healsburg

bottles and glasses of wine

Great views, greater wines. Ridge is a must. The wines offered by Ridge are top notch, well balanced, unique wines. While you can find their wines in some stores make the trip up the mountain where you can taste some of the more limited offerings. Anderson's Conn Valley Vineyards

winery's barrel room

Fantastic wines, a great and knowledgable tasting team and one of my most favorite settings make Anderson's Conn Valley Vineyards a wonderful and special place. We toured the vineyard in it's total seclusion, silence and peace; tasted in the caves (a must see); and lounged in their upper terrace while finishing off our tasting.
