McDowell Valley Vineyards & Cellars

Nestled in the Mayacamas Mountains of southeastern Mendocino County, McDowell Valley Vineyards was established in 1970. This vineyard has one of the longest records of continuous wine grape production in California. Syrah and Grenache have been planted on this soil for almost a century, when the Buckman Family made a perfect match in planting Syrah and Grenache vines in the McDowell Valley. It is because of this rich history and distinct growing conditions that in 1982 McDowell Valley obtained one of the earliest BATF viticultural appellations. Today, of the 330 acres of grapes planted in the 500 acre valley, nearly a third are dedicated to Rhône varietals such as Syrah, Grenache, and Viognier.

Meyer Family Cellars

Matt Meyer
From an early age, Matt's goal was to be a winegrower like his father. As he grew up, he spent much of his time in the vineyard and cellar at Silver Oak. The passion he developed for wine led him to the University of California, Davis, where he was awarded a Masters in Viticulture in 2002.
Karen Meyer
Karen was born and raised in Perth, Western Australia. After a harvest in Margaret River, she was hooked on wine. She completed a degree in enology at Charles Stuart University, then spent the next few years working harvests around the world. In 1999 Matt and Karen met in Oregon while working the crush at Argyle Winery in the Willamette Valley. The wines produced at Meyer Family Cellars are as diverse as the vineyards in which they are grown.

Milano Family Winery

Milano Family Winery specializes in some of the more unknown varietals such as Carignane, Charbono and Valdiguie as well as the more known Zinfandel, Cabernet, and Merlot. Housed in an former hop kiln this quaint tasting room is just off highway 101 just south of Hopland. I was quite impressed with the tasting room staff and the genuine feeling that you get when you first enter the room. The wine itself isn't earth shattering, but it's decent quality enough to keep most visitors interested.

Monte Volpe

The wines we have made at Monte Volpe (which means Fox Mountain) since Monte Volpe first releases in 1991 are rich in color, fragrance, flavor and offer a great deal of finesse. Their structures are reminiscent of their Italian ancestry, but they display a vibrancy that is the hallmark of wines that are produced from fully ripened grapes.

Naughty Boy Vineyards

Naughty Boy Vineyards is a small organic Pinot Noir Vineyard. Planted in 1996 by the owners and farmed organically by Jim Scott.

The Pinot Noir is made in the Burgundian style. Naughty Boy Vineyards buys only new French oak and barrel ferment for 18 months to 2 years before bottling and then wait a year to release it. Naughty Boy Vineyards offers two labels, our original label has our pet boxer "Little Ricky" who was a faithful vineyard dog and helped with planting and frost protection

Navarro Vineyards & Winery

We arrived on a sunny May day and it was easily over 90 degrees. We stopped by Navarro and I have to say - the grounds were gorgeous! There was a bench with a picnic table for those who wanted to lunch and wine. It overlooked gorgeous green lushy grass on a hill. The tasting room was very cozy and small but definitely very welcoming. Our pourer was friendly and gave us a great restaurant recommendation.

Oster Wine Cellars

Oster Wine Cellars is a small family-owned winery in California's Mendocino County. Established in 2002 by Teresa Fetzer Oster and Ken Oster. Oster specialize in Cabernet Sauvignon, producing approximately 1000 cases annually from their own estate grown, CCOF certified organic vineyards, located in Redwood Valley. From San Francisco, Oster Wine Cellars are a 2.5 hour drive north on the beautiful Redwood Hwy 101 and are available for private tastings.

Parducci Wine Estates

Established in 1932, Parducci Wine Cellars is the oldest winery in Mendocino County, California's northernmost premium winegrowing region. The winery produces approximately 150,000 cases of premium and super-premium wines and has recently been certified as an organic processor. Parducci's estate vineyard encompasses 30 acres of benchland surrounding the winery. The site boasts gentle slopes and shallow soils ideal for the robust red varieties - Syrah and old-vine Petite Sirah - that comprise the majority of its vines.

Patianna Organic Vineyards

Patianna Organic Vineyards includes 126 acres tucked alongside the Russian River in the Sanel Valley, Mendocino County. Patti Fetzer became the landowner in 1998. Patianna’s well-drained, gravelly soil is ideal for growing Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. The primary characteristics of the fruit are purity and varietal character.
