Hanna Winery

Hanna Winery was founded in 1985 by Dr. Elias Hanna, a world-renowned cardiac surgeon, who was eager to find a place in the country to continue the farming heritage of his upbringing in Syria. In the 1970s he realized his dream with the purchase of 12 acres in the Russian River Valley. Dr. Hanna's oldest daughter Christine now runs the winery. Great location, excellent views and a really nice and modern tasting room. Hanna makes a wide variety of wines and I was taken by their Elias Pinot Noir.

Harris Estate Vineyards

Harris Estate Vineyards is nestled on 48 wooded acres in the special microclimate of Franz Valley near Calistoga, California. This small inlet of Napa Valley is protected on three sides by rocky, wooded hills. The property rises from 500 feet to almost 1000 feet above sea level. This difficult, rocky terrain allows for three totally unique vineyards with distinct individual characteristics.

Mike and Treva Harris purchased Harris Estate in 1997 after retiring after 32 years as a pediatric dentist. Making wine was never part of their original retirement plan, but after having the soil tested and told the land would make excellent vineyard, they had to plant.

Thomas Brown, winemaker, is one of Napa Valley's most respected winemakers and also consults for Schrader, Outpost, Casa Piena, Chiarello and his own label, Rivers-Marie.

Hart's Desire Wines

Hart's Desire had absolutely exceptional wines, and very many at that. They had a lot of varietals that you rarely find elsewhere in Sonoma County except for in blends, such as Malbec, Claret, and Cabernet Franc. Their tasting room has beautiful artwork and has an old school jukebox playing great tunes!

Hartwell Vineyards

The minute you drive up to the property, you immediately notice the breathtaking views. We loved our host, Dave. The groups are kept small; there was a total of 8 of us. He started us off with a nice Chardonay. We stepped outside to take in the beautiful and peaceful scenery, overlooking their vineyards across the valley from the property. Once we finished the tour, Dave guided us into the beautiful tasting room for the wine and cheese pairing. Each wine and each piece of cheese was more delicious than the first.

Harvest Moon Winery

The tasting room was cozy and had a warm ambiance to it, as do most of the wineries along Olivet Road. The pourers were friendly and conversational, not too pretentious about their wines but knew just enough to make good recommendations and tasting tips. The sparkling chardonnay and sparkling gewurztraminer were both refreshingly strange and delightful.

Hasen Vineyard & Winery

Hauck Cellars

GREAT tasting room. Wonderful location in town, and the wine is great. Dog-friendly, and MIKE is such an asset to that place. Super friendly guy. The owners are your guides through the wine list, and are funny and personable. The Savignon Blanc was great, as was the Pinot.

Hawkes Winery

The atmosphere of the tasting room is simple but modern. You can tell that they put their real energy into the wines. It's a nice stop with the Jimtown Store right next door where you can pick up a tasty sandwich and sit out back looking over the vineyards. When it comes to the people and service, you really get a feel that this is a family run operation. Stephen Hawkes the owner/farmer/winemaker is there every year at the barrel tasting to share the experience and crafted love that goes into these amazing red wines.

Hawley Wine

The staff here was not your typical in-your-face, super-upseller, super high energy and friendly type of pourer-- but she was very helpful, sweet and laid back which was kind of nice for a change. The room itself is worth the stop! All the hand carved wood--surrounding the barrel-made bar in the middle of the room, the tasting bar, and the walls is beautiful. The wood gives this place a super relaxing, comfortable cozy wine tasting environment.

HDV Wines

I heard about HDV through a Sommelier. Based on his recommendation, I decided to pay them a visit. They're owned by Larry Hyde of Hyde Vinyards & Aubert de Villaine of Domaine de la Romanee Conti in Burgundy, France.

This winery and tasting room are among the more intimate and rustic in Napa. I was treated to a private tasting that was hosted by their in-house wine pro, Lawrence Townsend. He slowly walked us through the wines (tasting lasted almost 1.5 hours) and shared the HDV story from the very beginning. We were pretty curious about their vineyard and their unique style of wines. Lawrence gave us his undivided attention and answered our questions leaving no stone unturned.
