Baileyana Winery

We stopped here to meet friends while visiting SLO for the first time. We brought sandwiches from an outside sandwich shop and bought a bottle of white wine to share on the benches overlooking the Bocce ball area and vineyards. It really doesn't get any more spectacular in terms of view. Combined with wine and a picnic...it's a recipe for a perfect afternoon.

Baily WInery

Decor is fun with an amusing assortment of gargoyle and medieval statuary scattered about the very pleasant grounds. We ate on the lovely patio (Carols) with refreshing breezes and the sounds of wind chimes. It was a spectacularly sparkling day and the patio was just delightful.
The wine tasting was $10 for 6 tastes on weekends ($5 on weekdays), which is cheaper than most wineries in the area. They don't offer you a free logo glass with the wine tasting, but they do offer a $5 Bailybucks to apply towards the purchase of a bottle of wine. The tasting menu stated 1 oz pours, but they were pretty generous with each pour.

Baiocchi Wines

They say genetic traits can skip generations. Greg Baiocchi would argue that passions can skip generations well. This was the case for Greg’s father, who grew up watching his father, Maggio Baiocchi, make wine. While the smell alone was enough to dissuade Greg’s dad from following in his father’s footsteps, it was not enough to keep Greg from doing so. As a boy of five or six, Greg remembers watching his grandfather in his basement, working the old equipment. The sights, sounds and smells of watching him make wine are still vividly alive for Greg Baiocchi today.

Baker Lane Vineyards

Stephen Singer founded Baker Lane in 2003 after decades of work in the wine business in the San Francisco Bay area. He was the wine director at Chez Panisse for many years and was married to owner Alice Waters. He has partnered in the restaurants Cesar in Berkeley and Pizza Vino 707 in Sebastopol. Singer farms an estate vineyard just beyond Sebastopol planted to Syrah and Pinot Noir. The winemaker is Steven Canter.
Baker Lane wines have some restaurant and retail distribution and are sold online.

Baldacci Vineyards

Low-key tasting in the main room, hosted by one of the Baldacci sons (Andrew. He was so nice and so very knowledgeable. We were the only ones there so it was very intimate and informative. We were able to ask all sorts of questions and taste as much as we wanted. The wines were all so amazing - we knew for sure that we wanted to buy some but it was hard to decide which ones! We ended up getting the Stag's Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon...I'd also recommend their IV Sons - very good.

Ballentine Vineyards

The tasting room is very small and not a sit down luxurious place. However, their wines are top notch and the service we had was friendly and helpful. Of course we had an appointment. Even though we were a few minutes late it was no problem. Tasting fee is reasonable $10 or $15 but waived with purchase.
Wines are not expensive and I fell in love with the Block 9 Zin.

Balletto Vineyards

Our pourer today was Matt, who was a wealth of knowledge. Many pourers are good at recital of their product, but don't have a lotta depth. Matt is extremely well versed in wine, wine making, viticulture, and local wineries.Starting with a very nice Gewurtztraminer, it had all the great aromatics and was very sharp on the palate. The Dutton Ranch Chardonnay was excellent and a nice balance of classic and new world styles. The Dutton Ranch Pinot Noir was a great classic Russian River Pinot.

Banshee Wines

Banshee crafts wines of uncommon purity from Sonoma and Napa California. Banshee specialize in Pinot Noir, Cabernet and Sauvignon Blanc. Plus they have a special red blend called Mordecai.
