Still water is a hidden gem in Paso Robles and those that greet you make you feel welcomed. The wines were excellent! Grounds are beautiful. Paul the owner was nice, very knowledgeable and ready to help us enjoy our visit. This is a small winery were you will likely have a chance to deal one on one with the people making the wines. A little off the beaten path, but well worth it.
Barreto Cellars, founded by Michael and Joey Barreto, Barreto Cellars was established with the idea of becoming the leader in California producing high quality wines featuring grape varieties native to the Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal). Because of relatives who migrated to America from these regions there is an obvious connection and desire to learn more about and develop wines utilizing these varieties. Many of these are unheard of in California except for a few elite growers and select winemakers. Currently we are creating wines in the New World style while trying to capture the truly unique characteristics each variety possesses. Each lot of wine is carefully hand-crafted from vineyard to bottle to bring the true sense of the vineyard to your glass. In an attempt to represent both Spain and Portugal equally, a red variety noted for each country is being produced.
This vineyard is such a little gem! They are located on top of a hill so the view is gorgeous, and they have an adorable patio area. The servers are extremely knowledgeable, pleasant and attentive, even when the counter is packed full. I appreciated the hospitality. Great view from the patio, a nice place to bring some snacks and enjoy a tasting. A couple nice well behaved dogs hang out with you while you are enjoying your tasting. The Old Vine Chardonnay, Red Wolff, Syrah and Petite Syrah were all good. Many of the wines are particularly good with a cheddar based cracker so bring some!
Tasting fee is $8 waived per bottle purchased ($10 for groups of 8 or more). All wines under $30 per bottle (regular price). Sammie the dog is gorgeous and well behaved! Brixie is the old English Lab - they used to have a "Brixie's red" that was a really nice table wine - I believe this is now the Red Wolff.
This winery's goal is to make wine that works hard at helping hard working Americans relax for a minute, take a load off, and remove ones nose from the grindstone for a while.
Red Rhone Blend and White Rhone Blend. If you want to visit Jacob Toft, it is open at the following times: Private tastings available by appointment.
My philosophy on making wine is that the fruit is EVERYTHING. What happens in the vineyard determines the quality of the wine - I can't make it better - I can only screw it up! That's why I'm extremely picky when choosing vineyards to buy grapes from. Not only am I looking for the right soil, micro-climate, and clones, I'm also looking for a grower with the same passion and dedication to producing great wine that I have. In other words, a total Pinot Freak! - Brian Loring
Today Smith & Hook continues to produce its signature varietal-Cabernet Sauvignon. Established in 1996 by Tim and Mimi Spear, Clos Mimi is a "très petite" winery located in Santa Maria, California. Clos Mimi is French for "Mimi's enclosed vineyard" expressing Tim's timeless endearment to his children's mother, his wife, his business partner, his best friend and his soul mate. Inspired by the greatest "monocépage" wines of Burgundy, Côte Rotie and Hermitage, Clos Mimi is committed to vineyard designated, one hundred percent Syrah farmed by small family growers in Paso Robles and Santa Ynez.
