Monterey and Carmel are beautiful places to visit at any time of the year. De Tierra Vineyards has a tasting room in the lovely Carmel Village that you just must stop in and experience for yourself. Join Alix and her team to experience some wonderful wines. The De Tierra winemaking team works hard and with passion to produce "in the glass" wines that define the vineyard that the grapes came from without a lot of manipulation during the process. Experience the end results for yourself at De Tierra Vineyards and tell them California Corks sent you. If you love Reds, be sure to try the Russel Estate Cab Franc and the Monterey Pinot Noir. The vineyard of Chatom Vineyards is nestled in the breathtaking Esmeralda Valley of the Sierra Foothills in Calaveras County. The valley was originally planted with low field crops, fruits and nut trees. When Gay Callan, owner and native San Franciscan, purchased the property in 1980, her vision was to plant a vineyard. Her first varietals were then planted in 1981, totaling 21 acres of Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc. Today, the vineyard boasts 13 varietals planted on 65 acres, including Chardonnay, Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Zinfandel, Syrah, Sangiovese and 5 Portuguese varietals.
Here's a winemaker who goes out of his way to write a warm personal thank you at the end of the year that frankly sets Page apart. Just good business -sure. But more than that I think. Kudos to Bryan Page for a terrific stable of wines and an awareness that the 'why' of what he is doing-making great intimate experiences for his growing wine club - is critical to his success.
Mayo Family Winery produces small lots of single-vineyard wines under the premise that the world's most interesting and highest quality wines must come from a single-vineyard source that can be expressed in the wines' aroma, taste and texture. Founded in 1993, the winery has two winemaking facilities in Glen Ellen, California, each fitted and equipped to produce particular types of wines. Mayo Family wines are only sold online or in their tasting room attached to the winery in the town of Glen Ellen and their two other tasting rooms in Sonoma Valley.
Point Reyes Vineyards, family owned and operated on scenic Highway 1, overlooking the beautiful Point Reyes National Seashore, is 40 miles north of San Francisco. For three generations, our family has proudly farmed the rich, fertile lands of Marin County. In 1990, our love of fine wines led to the planting of a small vineyard.
This tasting room came highly recommended based on the merits of their wine. We (5) savored customized flights depending on what we each wanted to try, which Hal then poured in the correct order while he enthusiastically told us all about Joullian. While our group's style preferences vary, everyone was impressed with the wines and our tasting room experience.
Great wine, amazing staff and wonderful venue. I highly recommend you visit Stryker Sonoma winery. Beautiful views from the property and from inside the north-facing tasting room, which is enclosed by large windows. Friendly, knowledgeable staff, they are not pushy but are very generous.
I walked into this place for a tasting, and they handed me a pulled-pork slider that blew my mind. No matter what wine I was handed after that was going to be the best I'd tasted all day.
That's cheating. Down and dirty, but it was so wonderful I'm not going to complain!
Michael Pozzan Winery is owned and operated by Michael and Mary Ann Pozzan, both natives of California. Michael was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, but spent his summer months with his grandparents on their 35 acre vineyard estate in Sonoma County. Michael's grandfather purchased the land after WWII and planted Zinfandel grapes, which he sold to local wineries. He always made sure that he retained a portion of the grapes to make his own wine. With roots extending to Piedmont, Italy, Michael's family has been in the wine business since the mid 1800s, and still owns the original property that Michael's great grandfather planted over100 years ago.
